Public Access to Documents Being Considered by Public Bodies |
10-Feb-2012 |
A new law has recently gone into effect in New York State,
requiring Public Bodies to make records (documents) discussed
during meetings available to the public.
The Town of Danby has a trial implementation of this law
on its
web site.
As always, Town Board meeting agendae can
be viewed via links on the
Town Board page
of the web site. The
13-Feb-2012 Agenda
contains several links to documents scheduled to be discussed.
In addition to viewing (and, if you prefer and if you have
the paper and ink handy, printing) the information at home, you
can bring a laptop computer to the Town Hall meeting room and
"read along" using the room's wireless network. If you don't
have a laptop handy, two public access computers are available
in the room.

Dogs Must Be Licensed; Dog Enumeration; Fee Schedule |
10-Oct-2010 |
Attention all dog owners in the Town of Danby
Every dog over the age of four months, owned or harbored
in New York State for longer than 30 days, must be registered
and licensed in the town where they are harbored. A renewal
license must be purchased every year.
The Town of Danby is conducting a door-to-door dog
enumeration. If you have a licensed dog, you will need to
show its license (or signed renewal form) and a current rabies
certificate. Please have them available.
If any unlicensed dogs are found, you will be required to
obtain a license for each one and a $5 penalty fee will be added to
the regular licensing fee. In addition, if the dog's license has
lapsed (not renewed for more than a year), back fees will be collected.
This is required by NY State Law.
The current dog licensing fees are:
Category | Annual Fee |
Spayed/Neutered | $12 |
Unspayed/Unneutered | $20 |
A valid Rabies Certificate is required to register your dog.
A certificate of proof of spaying or neutering is required to
qualify for the reduced fee for Spayed/Neutered dogs.
You may obtain a license for your dog(s) at the
Town Clerk's
office.

Black Bear sighted in Downtown Danby |
16-Jun-2009 |
News Flash-
Danby, NY. Our correspondent, Bea Hogben, reports from Downtown Danby:
On June 15, after attending an informative training session
describing treatments for allergies, heat exhaustion, and heat
stroke, conducted by Peter Goodman at the Danby Fire Station,
I left the station for home around 8:30pm.
Much to my amazement, I saw a black bear go "lumbering" across
NYS Rt.96B from the Hornbrook Road area, and then across the lawn
of the Danby Fire Station.
Another stunned witness to the incident, standing on all four
spindly legs, was interviewed. "There I was, minding my business
and staying out of traffic on the Fire Station lawn. I looked up,
and couldn't believe my eyes," reported the unnamed, wide-eyed deer.
"I was looking at a bear. A bear!"
I had heard there were bear in the area. Now I believe it.
